Over the next months I'll be building the 01 Small Freighter and posting images and info on the progress. Keep watching this page.
O.k. finally found some time to start the online build, Please note that the following steps are just a guide. If you've worked out a better way to do post it in the forum. So here we go......
Session 1
STEP 1 Seemed to me the first thing to do was mount the hull on a stand. Keeps the hull upright and allows all round access. I dug up a 10mm threaded rod and matching nuts, spring and star washers, plus a small piece of metal with a right angle that I had a brainstorm about using to stop the hull spinning about on the rod and the nuts coming loose. (fig 1) |
STEP 2 The hull was assembled without glue to determine the centre of balance by the simple expedient of resting it on my finger until I found the centre of balance, which was marked with a black cross.(fig 2) |
STEP 3 The rod, nuts, washers and metal bracket were dry assembled and the position of the bracket marked and a saw used to cut a slot at that point (fig 3, a,b,c) The metal bracket was fliped over and fitted into the cut slot. The bracket along with star and spring washers keep the hull from spinning. |
| STEP 4 Once the rod was attached (fig 3c above) a piece of wood was drilled and countersunk with a 10mm hole and used as a temporary base by clamping it to a table |
| STEP 5 The hull was again dry assembled this time on the support. The design was decided, (simple freighter) and the rib enlargers (RE's) were included it the design. (fig 5) |
